The La-5 of Capt. Georgii Dmitriyevich Kostylev, 3GvIAP-KBF, VVS, Leningrad Front, 1945. Kostylev scored 11 kills (confirmed) and 32 kills (shared) and flew with the 3GvIAP-KBF and the 5th IAP-KBF, VVS. He won The Hero of the Soviet Union, 2 Orders of the Red
Banner and 2 Orders of Lenin and flew 418 missions.

This model represents the first version of the Lavochkin fighter line. It was developed from the unsuccesful Lagg-3 fighter that had an inline engine. The Lagg-3 airframe was adapted to use the M-82 radial engine, which had considerably more power. It was originally called the Lagg 5 but the designation was soon changed to the La-5.

Steve Day previously painted a fictitious La7 model skin for the 12 IAP online flying group. The scheme was close to a skin that was actually used on a La5 from the real 12th IAP. Now that the La5 model is available, Michael "RedEyes" Lask has adapted the 12 IAP skin to this model and made it historically accurate including the correct fuselage number. Thank you RedEyes and Steve! This skin is 3dfx compatible.

I developed this version from my previous La-5FN model. The principal difference is the razorback fuselage instead of a bubble canopy and slightly different nose air intake. I started the original project from the old PAW Ki84 3DZ model. Very little is left of that. There are also new 3DZ files for distance view models, a new shadow, and the fuselage and tail are now non-mirroring as well. It is intended for use with Charles Gunst's ECAPanel, using the Typhoon slot. Fly it in Emil's "Caucuses Campaign" add-on.

I had some big help to resolve some early 3dz problems and when running it in Glide, from Charles Gunst, Geo, and Steve Day.

The cockpit was originally done by Stefan Wikstrom (Hynkel) for the older pseudo La5s (PAW Ki-84 based). It has been adapted with new wing view to work with this model.

To use just install the TPC and 3DZ files into your EAW folder.

Cheers,

Captain Kurt
